Game in Action
Wizard of Gems uses a relatively unique setup, although it has been used on one of Play N’ Go’s older titles. The symbols cascade, falling into place and then disappearing when they line-up and create winning paylines. You will recognize this setup to the one used in games such as Chain Reactors, and to the popular Microgaming feature known as Rolling Reels. It works, and it makes the base game a little more interesting.
Visually speaking, this is not the best looking game, but it’s not terrible. And that’s of little importance anyway, as there are some impressive wins in the base game alone. As well as disappearing to create more paylines, the cascading symbols also build multipliers and allow you to stack some pretty big wins.
This layout works very well on mobile devices, where it mimics popular mobile games. It is a little bigger and somewhat less streamlined than those games, but the basics are there.
Bonuses
Wizard of Gems has a free spins round, but there are no additional multipliers here. Instead, the reels fill with between 1 and 9 wild symbols per spin. This more or less ensures that every spin is a winner, and with 10 free spins on the go, it will also ensure that you don’t leave this round without a fairly substantial win.
The free spins round is also much more common than main bonus features on other slots, and we found that on average we didn’t need to wait for more than 50 spins to hit it. And on one occasion we hit it twice within 10 spins, although we were very lucky in this instance.

Summary
Although it is not the best looking game around, we really enjoyed Wizard of Gems and are happy to give this an 8 out of 10. The base game is very strong, and it is backed up by a generous free spins round. It could have used a better aesthetic, some bigger multipliers and another feature, but as it is it’s still a very worthwhile slot.
