Merry Xmas is very well presented. These games are prone to looking a little dated and simplistic, with a tired aesthetic, but Merry Xmas is polished and sharp. This is the way it should be, but it’s commendable anyway as this is a very attractive slot. It’s ideal for getting you into the Christmas spirit, although the aesthetic is somewhat devoid of that homely feeling that some others have.
There are some big paying symbols here, and there is also a big wild. In fact, there are no filler symbols, which often take the form of player card values, and this is defiantly a welcome omission. One of the disappointments about the base game, as well as the exclusion of any major feature to make things a little more exciting, is the fact that there are only 15 paylines. The reels look a little sparse, and you get the feeling that 30+ would have been more a more fitting number of paylines for this game.

There are no free spins on Merry Xmas, which is a surprise. In fact, it’s a travesty. This is an essential on all modern slots and retro slots, and its absence leaves a big and visible hole. There is a bonus round and this is okay, but it’s not as generous or as fun as a free spins round could have been. You can win as much as 150x your stake in the bonus round, but we find that you will struggle to go above 20x, and on average you will get around half this.

If we could have one thing this Christmas, it would be some free spins, some extra paylines and maybe another feature or two. Merry Xmas is one of those Christmases where you need a bucketload of booze to make it worthwhile, because stripped bare, there is not enough going on for it to stand up on its own.
