About Hugo Slots

Hugo is a little troll, who, once upon a time, was very popular on television. Indeed, he has a whole franchise build around him and to this day remains quite recognizable. Of course, slot players may remember him from their childhood, but the cartoon and all the merchandise was not aimed at adults. This slot game is and perhaps it’s a nice little throwback to when you were younger. If you don’t know him at all, you can still take this fun little cartoon slot for a spin and help rescue Hugoline from the evil witch Afskylia.

Game in Action

Since this slot is based on what was originally a cartoon, it’s hardly surprising that the symbols are all very cartoonish. But they’re also quite faithful to the cartoon. Hugo stands in as the wild, whereas his love Hugoline only shows up during the free spin bonus. The evil witch with her unpronounceable name is the scatter symbol. Among the high paying symbols you’ll find the stuff Hugo is known for, such as a pick axe, dynamite sticks, gold nuggets and bags of gold.

In addition to that, there are also a number of colourful but non-descript card symbols on the reels. The background music is also faithful to the cartoon and is quite lively and not overly intrusive. Every once in a while Hugo will knock on your screen and wonder what you’re up to, especially when the reels haven’t moved for a few moments.

The slot comes with only 10 paylines, but is not as volatile as you might think. In the base game the wild will help you keep your funds topped up, but the two bonus features are where the money lies.

Bonuses

The wild, by the way, doubles all wins that it is a part of, which is always a nice addition. That is also true for the free spin bonus, where more wins are possible.

The free spin bonus is triggered when you get the evil witch scatter on the reels at least three times. When that happens, you get to choose the number of free spins you can get and how much the extra scatter, which is Hugoline, will be worth whenever she appears.

You can get 5 spins with the Hugoline scatter paying 3 times your total stake. Or you choose 10 spins, where Hugoline will pay double your total stake. If you choose 15 free spins, then Hugoline is only worth 1x your total stake. Your safest bet here really is choosing 10 spins with Hugoline worth double your stake. She does come stacked, but that doesn’t mean she’ll always show up stacked over an entire reel.

The second bonus to look out for is the pick me bonus. Here you’ll have to spin the treasure chest onto reels 1, 3 and 5. When that happens you’ll enter the caves. Pick between 4 doors, then 3 doors and finally 2 doors to reveal coin prizes. Don Croco may lurk behind a door at any time, however, and when he jumps you, you get booted out of the bonus.

Summary

Hugo does feel a little bit as if it was made for children. That’s a problem inherent to the theme, however. It doesn’t mean the slot isn’t entertaining and fun to play. The two bonus features can be elusive if you are unlucky, but it’s possible to strike gold here, too.

Play’n GO has certainly better slots on offer, and slots that are much more beautiful. Given the theme, they’ve done their best with this slot and you can definitely take it out on a spin to save little Hugoline from the dungeons.
