About Grim Muerto Slots

Grim Muerto is Play’n GO’s newest slot and it’s as gorgeous as you would expect it to be. After all, Play’n GO doesn’t make boring or ugly looking slots. The theme is not unfamiliar, if you’ve played Thunderkick’s Esqueleto Esplosivo before, but Play’n GO doesn’t copy here. It’s still totally unique, despite also featuring a skeletal mariachi band. Fun and unique features will soon convince you that this slot holds its own despite featuring a familiar theme.

There’s nothing grim about Play’n GO’s Grim Muerto. Whilst it is another slot that celebrates the Mexican Dia de Los Muertos, it’s a colourful and fun slot, which will entertain you far more often than it will depress you. Beside a few generic, albeit gorgeous, card symbols, you’ll find four skeletal members of a mariachi band on the slot. They each have a name and play a different instrument: we have Amador on the accordion, Tauro on the trumpet, Fernando with the fiddle and Vincente on the vihuela.

The soundtrack goes well with the theme, but you will have to at least tolerate mariachi music to stand it for a while. It’s not everyone’s taste, no matter how lively and fun someone might believe themselves to be.

Thankfully this slot is not just about the free spin feature, which is particularly awesome here, mind you. No, the base game also has something to offer, leaving you with a pretty well-balanced slot.

Bonuses

During the base game you’ll find on highlighted reel on every spin. That golden reel indicates that a wild landing here will expand and cover the whole reel. Whilst it doesn’t happen often, it’s always nice when it does.

There’s also a second chance feature in the base game, which is triggered whenever you land two book scatters anywhere on the reels. The four mariachi band members will show up and you get to pick one of them. You’ll either pick one of two coin prizes, nothing at all, or another book scatter, which would then launch the free spin feature.

More traditionally you’ll need to spin three book scatters onto reels 1, 3 and 5 in order to trigger the free spin feature. You’ll get started with 10 free spins and every spin will have 2 to 5 highlighted reels, indicating where a wild could expand. Additionally one of the mariachi band members will be turned into a second wild at the beginning of the feature, doubling your chance to get wilds and expanding wilds.

And that’s still not the end of it, because you can collect 3 or 6 additional free spins with every 1 or 2 candles you spin onto the reels during the free spin feature. Doubling your initial free spins is not difficult at all, but with a little luck you can get 40 or more free spins. In theory you can keep going for a long time here.

Summary

Grim Muerto is a slot that offers medium volatility. Payouts can be handsome, especially during the free spin feature, but won’t be as frequent as they are in a slot of low volatility. Since there’s plenty of action to be found in the base game as well as the free spin feature, you won’t get bored with this slot anytime soon.

But since we have a familiar theme here, the comparison with Thunderkick’s Esqueleto Esplosivo is almost inevitable. Of course, Grim Muerto has definitely more features, but it doesn’t quite have Esqueleto Esplosivo’s charm. Still, you shouldn’t hold that against Grim Muerto, which is definitely entertaining and worth a try.
