Game in Action
Play’n GO’s The Eye of the Kraken is a beautiful slot. The attention to detail here is stunning and the graphics are gorgeous. You’ll find yourself somewhere deep under the sea and every so often a Kraken shows up from behind, embracing the reels, which are set in a unique 3×3 grid and all operate independently, essentially giving you 9 reels. There are fish swimming in the background and bubbles escaping to the surface. Add to that a suitably exciting soundtrack and you have one heck of an atmospheric slot.
The reels feature a number of characters, who stand in as the high paying symbols, as well as harpoons, diving helmets, torpedoes and old-fashioned oxygen tanks. The 8 paylines go horizontally, vertically and diagonally. But if you get four matching symbols in the four corners of the reels, you can win 10x your stakes. Completing a pattern of four, with the matching symbols sitting on the middle symbol of the four sides, you’ll get 5 times your stake.
Bonuses
Remember to look out for the Kraken approaching the reels in the base game. It’ll end up hugging the reels so tight that some of them will turn Wild. It’s entirely possible that the Kraken will turn all reels Wild, though that happens rarely. It’s pretty great when you get three or more Wilds during one of those embraces.
There is, of course, a Free Spin Bonus as well. If you collect 5 Diving Helmets on the reels, the Diving Modus gets activated and the reels actually dive down to the bottom of the sea. During the Free Spin Bonus, the Eye of the Kraken will be the Wild symbol and Treasure Chests that now also appear on the reels will provide additional wins. You’ll get a total of 9 free spins, which cannot be retriggered. But you’ll be able to collect 5 Diving Helmets often enough to see this one regularly.
The last bonus to look out for is the Kraken Bonus. In order to launch this one, you’ll be collecting Torpedoes throughout the base game. There is a torpedo meter on the right-hand side of the screen, counting down from 50. Once you’re at 0, the Kraken Bonus gets launched.
Here you’ll discover 6 open chests, showing you three empty ones and 3 filed with coin prizes. Then the Kraken makes an appearance and snatches up those chests. You get to shoot at it three times with three torpedoes and hopefully one or two of the boxes contain coins. Whilst it is unlikely that you’ll walk away empty handed, it is possible. At least it usually won’t take you more than 100 spins to collect the required number of torpedoes.

Summary
The Eye of the Kraken slot is definitely one of Play’n GO’s most beautiful ones and they generally turn out fantastic graphics. Its unique layout with the 9 symbols spinning away as independent reels is pretty neat. Since this is a low variance slot, you’ll see small wins very frequently, which means it never really gets boring.
The Kraken offers some excitement during the base game and free spins are won frequently enough to tide you over to the main Kraken Bonus. That one, however, can be very much hit and miss and it is then that collecting 50 torpedoes doesn’t seem worthwhile. Still, we love this slot and have yet to be bored with it.
