About Book of Dead Slots

You’ll be excused for thinking that Play’n GO’s Book of Dead (no ‘the’ in there anywhere) looks oddly familiar. When you start playing the slot, you’ll be wondering, if you are indeed on the right machine, because this one really looks and feels like Novomatic’s iconic Book of Ra Deluxe. And indeed, unless Play’n GO is horribly oblivious about this classic slot, we can only consider Book of Dead a homage to the original. A worthy one at that.

Book of Dead is indeed another Rich Wilde adventure. He’s graced the reels in Pearls of India and Aztec Gold before and his roguish charm is also part of Book of Dead. He’s the highest paying symbol, of course. Additionally we have Anubis, a falcon and the golden mask of a pharaoh on the reels alongside a few generic card symbols. The book of dead itself is the wild and scatter in one.

The saving grace of this slot in its base game is the fact that the high paying symbols only require two adjacent matching symbols (starting from the left) in order to pay out. The low paying card symbols require the usual three. That means it’s entirely possible to keep going for some time on regular wins during the base game, but you’ll soon find that the wins tend to be awfully small. Thankfully any five of a kind pay out pretty well even in the base game.

Bonuses

To survive Book of Dead, you’ll be looking for three book scatters anywhere on the screen. And you’ll be looking for quite a while. Going for 200 spins without a free spin bonus is possible. Next time you play, however, you might trigger it after only 20 spins. Such is the danger of a highly volatile slot.

Once you have collected three scatters, the book will open and a second symbol is randomly chosen as a wild, which has the potential to expand. A single extra wild won’t be expanding, but if you get two or three anywhere on the screen, they’ll expand after the initial win has been paid out. And they’ll pay out regardless of where they are on the reels.

The four higher paying symbols will definitely add some extra benefit here and can result in some staggering payouts.

Free spins cannot be re-triggered from within the free spin feature, however. So you must hope for big wins and either walk away afterwards or dig in for the long haul until the next thrilling round of free spins.

Summary

Book of Dead is not for careful players. If you worry about your budget, you’re going to have to find a slot that’s friendlier. Thrill-seekers on the other hand should love this one. There’s a reason Book of Ra has become as iconic as it has. Play’n GO’s version has the added benefit of being more beautiful and it also sounds better.

On top of that you’re more likely to find an online casino that offers Play’n GO slots as Novomatic is increasingly hard to find online. Since its wider release as a browser version, the slot is no longer just available for mobiles either, which means you can play it here or at your favourite casino online.
