With Pickings is quite beautifully done. We would have wished for more fairy tale inspired symbols, though. You get a cat, a cauldron, a potion and a castle. The witches are crammed into one symbol – the scatter. It would have been nicer to see them each in her glory on an individual symbol.
The slot is still quite beautiful, though, and the background music provides a light, orchestral sound that certainly reminds us of those Disney movies we alluded to above. The slot has somewhat of a 3D quality as well, though we wouldn’t consider it a 3D slot like the ones Betsoft makes.
At least the gameplay in this NextGen slot is pretty classic for the slot developer, because it’s all about the big feature. And big it is. So much so that the base game lacks some excitement.
Bonuses
When you manage to get at least three scatters anywhere on the screen, you’ll quickly find out where the slots title comes from. You’ll be facing the three witches and they each offer you one pick among the three options each of them provide.
Blue witch – She gives you options for the symbols. If you pick ‘symbols same’, one high paying symbol is randomly chosen and all other high paying symbols will turn into that one for the duration of the spins. Choose ‘symbols stacked’ and one random high paying symbol turns into a stacked symbol throughout the spins. Lastly, ‘symbol prize’ means that one high paying symbol comes with a coin prize whenever it shows up on the screen, anything between 25 and 500 coins.
Red witch – She has wild symbol options. You can choose ‘expanding wilds’, ‘extra wilds’ or ‘wild multipliers’, where between 2x and 10x multiplier will be applied randomly.
Green witch – Extra options are made possible here. You can get a multiplier between 2x and 5x on any winning spin, choose to have the game pay both ways or get 5 extra spins, giving you 10 instead of the regular 5 you would get.
Choosing a winning combination is not easy at all. Generally getting extra wilds in one form or another and having more multipliers is a good choice. Getting 5 extra spins might help, because it will increase your chance of re-triggering the feature and your original choice will be kept for an additional 10 spins.

Summary
This slot can be a total hit or miss when it comes to picking your free spins feature. Whilst we ended up with 20 free spins in one round, we also only got one big win during all those spins. That one win was quite decent, but we would have hoped for more. This is a volatile slot, so you may lose a bit of money before the free spins actually hit.
You do get quite a bit of control here, but if you have no clue, you can also let the game decide for you. Overall Witch Pickings is pretty engaging and it’s also quite charming. It’s worth playing, especially if you’re more experienced with your slots. It may not be suitable for complete newbies, because the choices you have may not mean much to you.
