300 Shields from NextGen Gaming is a cult game. Graphically the slot is rich in detail, though not necessarily stunning. The background is distinctly Greek and the corn fields waving swaying in the win are a nice touch. You’ll find arrows, sword, warriors and a battle ship on the reels. The distinctly runic looking card symbols seem slightly out of place, but again, we won’t be discussing history here.
The soundtrack certainly puts you in mind of a battle, it aims to be glorious. When the Warrior Wild shows up, he will issue a battle cry, if he is part of a winning combination. The slot is considered to be very volatile, because wins are infrequent but can be very rewarding. That means you’re going to have to watch your budget when aiming for the Free Spin Battle Bonus. Thankfully you can decide how many lines you play and how much you want to wager per line. That will give you easy control over your budget.
Bonuses
For the most part this is a simple and straightforward slot. But once you collect 3 Shield Scatters anywhere on the screen, you’ll get launched into the Free Spin Battle Bonus, which is where the big money can be found.
You’ll be starting off with 5 free spins. To spice things up, a 2x multiplier is applied to all wins. Also, there will be blood, so this may not be for the faint of heart. If you manage to collect 2 or more Shields during the battle, you’ll make it to Stage 2.
In Stage 2 all wins will be multiplied by 5x. You’ll get another 5 free spins, but this time you will have to collect 6 Shields in order to advance. That’s possible, but really not that easy.
If you manage to do that, though, you will move onto Stage 3. Here you’ll get a further 5 spins and this time a 25x multiplier gets applied to all wins. That is already pretty amazing. Of course, in order to get into the last stage, Stage 4, of the battle, you’ll need to collect 12 Shields. That is very difficult indeed.
But in Stage 4 you will get another 5 free spins and a multiplier of 300x, in honour of the slot’s title and the 300 heroic Spartans. Needless to say that getting there is a heroic effort in itself and it will be richly rewarded.

Players, who like to risk pretty much everything in the hope for big rewards, will love this slot. The theme is appealing and you’ll soon get into the bloody slaughter when you aim for the 300x multiplier. Of course, careful budgeting is required, otherwise you may not get very far.
Alas, you’ll rarely make it past Stage 2 in the bonus game, which is hardly surprising, but can get frustrating in the end. The slot is still fun enough and those of you who prefer their slots on the volatile side of things, will definitely be happy with this one. It hasn’t achieved cult status for no reason.
