Disco Spins is certainly a colourful slot. Whilst the design is relatively simple and not totally overdone, which could have happened with a disco themed slot, the disco dancers are still funky and cartoonish and come with lots of glitter and very big heads. Studio 54 this is not, but there’s a bit of Abba at play here.
The disco dancers are the main symbols and the highest paying ones. There is also a disco ball scatter, because of course it has to be a disco ball. And the rest of the symbols are card symbols, which are designed in line with the theme.
The soundtrack ties in well with the theme and so do the changing background colours of the various symbols. You’ll find that this is quite significant when we talk about the features of this slot.
Bonuses
Disco Spins doesn’t come with a standard wild symbol. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any wilds in the game. Indeed, any of the dancers can turn wild. This happens when they land on a symbol that matches in background colour with their outfit. Thus you can have several different dancers turn wild at the same time.
The free spin bonus is triggered when you spin three more disco ball scatters onto the reels. You will get two different options as to how many spins you want to play and what features the bonus has.
If you choose the regular free spins option, you will get 15 spins with a 3x multiplier on all wins. This is a good option for those who like to have more spins and multipliers are always welcome.
Then there are the disco spins. Here all the card symbols are eliminated from the reels, which leaves you only with the disco dancers and the scatters. Of course, the likelihood of wins is a lot higher here and it’s nice to see the reels with dancers only. But there is no multiplier here and you only get 10 free spins. The gameplay in Disco Spins is not overly complicated. The choice of two different free spin options is certainly welcome, but it’s not easy to make a recommendation as to which one you should choose. We played both and ended up liking the disco spins version better, though not because we won more here.
Getting wilds in the base game is not as difficult as it may sound. They’re not always in optimal position, but that can be said about many slots. It’s always a nice surprise to see a wild appear, however. Disco Spins is a funky little addition to NetEnt’s portfolio, but it won’t hold your attention forever.
