About Reel Spinner Slots

Microgaming has probably the biggest slot portfolio of all iGaming software developers. At least they’re up there. So nowadays they are fishing (excuse the pun) for themes that are not totally overused. Thus we get Reel Spinner, a deep sea fishing adventure. Alas, it’s a bit of a generic addition to their portfolio and not much to truly get excited about. Still, Reel Spinner has a nice bonus feature, which got us hooked despite ourselves and we found it enjoyable enough to play for a while.

Microgaming did not go all out in the graphics department when they made Reel Spinner. We know they can do better. They’ve proven it time and again. The background in this slot is proof of that, because it does give you the high seas feeling. It looks quite realistic, too. So it’s a bit of a shame that the symbols don’t look as realistic.

The fish are nicely drawn and recognizable. But perhaps a tad too colourful, which makes them look a bit too cartoonish. If Microgaming had gone with a more realistic approach, the slot would’ve looked and felt totally different. We do like nice visuals. At the very least we’re happy that there are no generic card symbols anywhere to be found. Instead you have a compass, a fishing reel, a boat and such things as high paying symbols and some fish as low paying symbols.

The soundtrack sounds as if winds are blowing, every once in a while a line is reeled in and you also get some tunes and slot machine sounds in there. It’s a little cobbled together, but it won’t annoy the hell out of you.

Bonuses

The bonus game plays out in two stages. Look out for the swordfish scatter, which needs to show up at least three times anywhere on the reels. Depending on how many you get, you’ll also get an instant cash prize with three or more of them.

Then you’ll find yourself looking at six different boats. Choose whichever one appeals most to you. There’s no rule of thumb here. One way or another the boats will reveal the number of free spins you’ll be getting, between 8 and 20 as it is.

Next you’ll be spinning the reel of a fishing rod to reveal the multiplier that will be applied on all wins during the free spin bonus. You can get between 2x and 5x.

Finally the free spins will simply play out and throughout the bonus round the wild symbol will show up stacked. You won’t see many stacked wilds, however, but they can add a little thrill here.

Summary

We didn’t dislike the slot. Don’t get us wrong. We hit the free spin feature pretty soon when we started to play and that certainly made for a nice surprise. It’s not as elusive as it is in other slots. And since it’s a medium variance slot, wins can be decent. You’ll even be surprised at how often you manage to get 20 spins and the 5x multiplier.

Reel Spinner comes with a very specific theme that only people who like to go fishing or are interested in fish will find compelling. It’s not a bad theme and if you don’t care about the theme anyway, then you might as well give this one a try.
