Game in Action
At the Movies borrows a lot from the 50s cinema style, with bright neon lights in a red and white stripe theme. The symbols are all crisp and well designed, and they are also animated, coming to life when you land them in pay-line. The game generates regular wins, but many of the symbols don’t pay a lot of money. This doesn’t apply to all of them of course, but if you land 5 of the Oscar trophy symbols then you’ll scoop 1000x your line stake, whilst the popcorn symbol also pays very well.
There are not a lot of bonuses here, so there are not a lot of scatter symbols or bonus symbols, but there are some very generous wilds.
Bonuses
BetSoft typically pack their games with features and bonuses and this — combined with the great graphics and themes that many of them adopt — often makes for an impressive game. However, they have missed a trick with At the Movies, because whilst the graphics are there, the bonuses are not. Still, there is one bonus feature, and this is not to be scoffed at.
This feature comes by way of the movie projector symbol, which rewards you with a number of free spins. There is a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 20, and how many you get depends on whether you get 3, 4 or 5 of these projector symbols on any of the reels. There is also another interesting feature, but it is not a bonus round as such. It is activated via the wild symbol, which is represented by a pair of theatrical masks. As well as being a wild that shows up quite regularly, it also works as a 2x multiplier. This greatly increases your chances of winning big and comes in very handy during the free spins, improving your return.

Summary
Overall, At the Movies is a very interesting and fun slot, but it gets boring very quickly. There is little here to keep you interested for long, with limited bonus rounds, no unique features, and no expanding or exploding symbols or reels. This is a video slot that uses a nice theme and has been designed well. In that aspect it delivers everything you would expect from a BetSoft title, but whereas many of their other slots offer a wealth of features and bonuses, At the Movies does not.
